Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Melanie Liles has a Bachelor's degree in Education with a background in Theatre Design, and Visual Communications and Design. Through years of training as an Art teacher, Melanie has developed a wide range of knowledge in all forms of art but her focus is on illustration and printmaking.

In addition to Melanie's educational background, she has had over seventeen years of experience as a multi-disciplinary artist exhibiting at multiple venues such as Lattitude 53, SNAP Gallery, The Drawing Room, The Works Art and Design Festival, The Flying Canoe Volant Festival, and CAVA (Centre d'arts visuels de l'Alberta).

Likewise, Melanie has always been strongly connected to the arts community in Edmonton whether it's through her various exhibitions, collaborations, educational development, programming, or volunteering with organizations such as Edmonton Made, The Edmonton Arts Council, The Environmental Artworks Foundation of Alberta, SNAP, Latitude 53, CAVA, and the Art Gallery of Alberta.
